Maryam Janani-Flores is the policy director at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. She spent the prior decade-plus working throughout the research-to-policy pipeline on issues related to supply chains, small businesses, healthcare and public health, labor, and gender. A Texan, Janani-Flores began her career in government advising former U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), including as policy director on his U.S. Senate campaign, and subsequently served as legislative director to U.S. Reps. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) and Norma Torres (D-CA). Prior to working on Capitol Hill, Janani-Flores worked as a strategy consultant at the social impact firm Dalberg Advisors, a project associate at the University of California, Berkeley’s Center for Effective Global Action, and a research assistant with Innovations for Poverty Action in Kenya. She holds an M.P.A. in economics and public policy from Princeton University and a B.A. in neurobiology from Harvard University.
