Washington Center for Equitable Growth

Austin Clemens is a visiting fellow at the Washington Center for Equitable Growth. Previously, he was a senior fellow and a computational social scientist at Equitable Growth, where he led the organization’s work on federal statistical policy. He is an expert on income and wealth inequality in the United States, and he has been quoted and his work has been cited in the New York Times, Time, and The Atlantic. His writing on economic policy has appeared in Business Insider and The Hill.

Prior to joining Equitable Growth, Clemens was an assistant research scientist at the Public Policy Research Institute at Texas A&M University, where he led quantitative research evaluating policy changes in criminal justice policy. His academic work has appeared in Legislative Studies Quarterly and the Journal of Business and Politics. His data visualizations have appeared in ESPN the Magazine and Smithsonian. He holds a B.A. in economics from the University of Texas and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Georgia.
