WASHINGTON—The Washington Center for Equitable Growth announced today that founding President and CEO Heather Boushey, who most recently served as a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers and as chief economist at the Invest in America cabinet in the Biden-Harris administration, has rejoined the organization’s Steering Committee.

“It is such an honor for Heather to return to Equitable Growth’s Steering Committee,” said Equitable Growth President and CEO Shayna Strom. “Her wealth of economic experience in government the past 4 years, as well as her deep knowledge and understanding of Equitable Growth, will greatly benefit the organization and its next chapter of grantmaking.”

Boushey is currently a senior research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Reimagining the Economy Project. She served as president and CEO of the Washington Center for Equitable Growth from 2013 to 2020. She is the author of Unbound: How Economic Inequality Constricts Our Economy and What We Can Do About It (2019) and Finding Time: The Economics of Work-Life Conflict (2016). In 2016, she served as chief economist for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s presidential transition team. Throughout the course of her career, she has held multiple roles with the Center for American Progress, the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress, the Center for Economic and Policy Research, and the Economic Policy Institute. She has been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Democracy Journal, as well as on MSNBC and PBS.

“Equitable Growth remains as important as ever in bridging the gap between academia and policymakers to ensure research on economic inequality and growth is relevant, accessible, and informative to the policymaking process,” said Boushey. “I am delighted to work with my fellow Steering Committee members and Equitable Growth staff so the organization can continue to advance research on how inequality affects growth.”

Equitable Growth’s Steering Committee represents advisors from academia and the policymaking community. It helps guide the organization’s efforts to study economic inequality and its impact on economic growth and stability. Steering Committee members advise on Equitable Growth’s grantmaking program and help support the next generation of scholars.
