Washington, D.C. — The Washington Center for Equitable Growth is pleased to announce that Jason Furman, former chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, has joined the organization’s Steering Committee.
Furman is professor of the practice of economic policy at Harvard Kennedy School and a nonresident senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. His areas of study include macroeconomic policy, labor, fiscal policy, and tax policy.
“Understanding what makes the economy grow in a way that allows all Americans to share in the prosperity, and ensuring that that research is accessible to policymakers, is core to our mission,” said Heather Boushey, executive director and chief economist. “Jason’s economic expertise and keen understanding of the policymaking landscape make him invaluable to the success of Equitable Growth.”
Equitable Growth is a research and grantmaking organization exploring how structural changes in the U.S. economy related to economic inequality affect economic growth. The organization is helping to build a stronger bridge between academics and policymakers to advance evidence-backed ideas and policies that promote strong, stable, and broad-based economic growth. Its Steering Committee provides guidance and approves overall direction for the organization.
“Equitable Growth is a leader in advancing academic and policy-relevant research into whether and how inequality affects growth,” said Furman. “I am thrilled to be joining an organization that is driving the conversation on issues that are central to today’s economic policy debate.”
